Introducing Open Shifts

Introducing open shifts! Gone are the days of carefully assigning shifts to employees on days when they’ve specifically said that they’re available, only to find that, actually, they don’t fancy working on that day anymore and need you to rearrange everything. Not that we’re bitter.

Instead, you’re now able to create unassigned shifts and throw them open for eligible employees to volunteer for. Users will only be able to apply for shifts if they have the appropriate job role and don’t have any conflicts, and you’ll be able to choose whether the first person to apply for a shift will automatically get it or if they’ll be put into a shortlist so that you can make the final decision. And if the final lineup really isn’t suitable you can always reassign shifts as needed – you’ll just have to think up a good excuse for your team!

Not sure about the idea of letting your team run rampant over your lovely neat schedule? That’s okay too; you can continue assigning shifts manually if you’d prefer, we’re not judging. In fact, we’ve just revamped our auto-assign functionality to allow for intelligent assignment. Instead of scrolling through a long list of available employees, trying to work out who would be the best fit, let us do the hard work for you. We’ll order employees based on how many hours they’re already scheduled to work compared to the number of hours they’re supposed to work, and will even select them for you if you’d like.

Still, it can’t hurt to check out open shifts as well, can it? Check out our handy guide for more info; you never know, this could be the beginning of a whole new way of scheduling.
